Mother’s Day Highlight: Lauren Badenhoop

May 10, 2023

We had the opportunity to spend some time with Lauren and her family to talk through her journey navigating motherhood as a new mother, what inspires her personal style & more.

Tell us a little about what you do and about your family.

Hi! I’m a full-time mom, part-time creator, monthly mom-walk organizer, and occasional vintage seller. I do a little bit of everything, but my 10 month old bossman, Cedar, comes first. My fiancé, Curren, is a freelance electrician. He works so dang hard for us!! He travels a lot, so we try to hop on his work trips when he’s in a cool location.

What does motherhood mean to you?

Being a mom is the greatest and, at times, most overwhelming gift of all time. To love and be loved so unconditionally is truly an honor. Motherhood is the craziest, scariest rollercoaster ride I would never, ever get off of!

How do you balance mom life, personal and work?

I’m still figuring out this balancing act, but I’ve come a long way since my early days of motherhood, so here goes it! Firstly, CALENDARS!! Then saying yes to things that fill my cup, and no to what doesn’t. Just because I’m a mom doesn’t mean I can’t do things, Cedar just comes along for the ride!

What do you do when you get free time?

Ahh… ‘free time’, my favorite pastime. There’s not much of that in my life these days, but I like to sneak in a surf when I can.

What is something you’ve learned from your mother?

Optimism, positivity, and forgiveness. I’m still learning, but she’s really got it dialed and I’m forever taking notes!

Tell us one of your favorite cherished moments with your kid.

There was one day that was particularly rough when Cedar was about a month old. He refused sleep all day and wouldn’t stop crying, no matter what I tried. Eventually, I tried singing ‘You and Me’ by Penny and the Quarters, and he immediately stopped crying and smiled… which resulted in me crying immediately, but pushing through to keep on singing! It was a really special moment for us, like we were finally starting to understand each other.

How does your child inspire you, and how do you want to inspire him?

I’m constantly inspired by Cedar’s curiosity and wonder. The way he finds the tiniest, dullest things most interesting really makes me look at things differently. I hope to inspire my son to be true and loving to himself and others.

What’s the last thing you read, watched, listened to?

‘Play It as It Lays’ by Joan Didion, Ms. Rachel on YouTube (guilty), Nobody Wants A Lonely Heart by Arthur Russell.

How would you describe your personal style and what is a wardrobe essential for you?

“But-I’m-A-Cool-Mom” My style has gotten bolder and brighter since becoming a mom, and I’m guilty of trying to match with my son (sue me!) A good pair of clogs or boots are almost as essential as my anti-diaper-bag diaper bag or baby carrier.

What is your favorite piece from our current collection?

I’m really loving the Retro Trouser Pant + the matching Retro Vest in Leprechaun. So easy to dress up or down, and I’m a sucker for a good green.
